Subscribe to Codex with Google Play

💡 Goal: the user personally uses Codex and quickly completes a ChatGPT Pro subscription through Google Play.

What you are buying

Google Play sells ChatGPT Pro. Codex is included with the plan; it is not a separate top-up.

Fastest route

Recommended order:

1. Ask a trusted overseas client for payment help first;
2. The client only helps cover or pay the cost—the user still owns and manages ChatGPT and Codex;
3. Prefer a transfer or receipt-based reimbursement, with the user completing the purchase;
4. If no local card is available, test a China-issued Visa or Mastercard;
5. Do not rely on a virtual card or ask AI to fabricate a billing address.

Payment only

An overseas client can only help with who pays and which card is used. This does not change OpenAI regional requirements. The user's actual location must still be on OpenAI's supported list.

Direct client payment

If a client pays directly, agree in advance on:

• Who handles monthly renewal;
• How cancellation works;
• Who requests a refund;
• Who keeps the Google Play receipt.

A mobile subscription is associated with the Google Play account and ChatGPT account used at purchase and cannot simply be transferred. For long-term use, a client transfer with the user purchasing is usually clearer.

Virtual-card answer

Google Play's current payment-method guidance lists Virtual Credit Cards (VCC) as an unsupported payment type.

Therefore:

• Do not buy a so-called “ChatGPT virtual card” as the main route;
• An occasional successful charge does not make it stable;
• Funding, expiry, address verification, and automatic renewal may all fail.

Enter an address

AI cannot create the address

The billing address must be a genuine, verifiable address for the cardholder. AI may format a real address but must not generate a nonexistent tax-free address.

Aim for:

Address registered with the card
= Google Payments billing address
= Cardholder's genuine, documentable address

Google uses the legal address for compliance, fraud prevention, and tax calculation and may request supporting documents.

Do not generate a new street number, city, state, postal code, or a supposedly tax-free address.

Check tax

US states commonly described as having no statewide general sales tax:

• Delaware
• Montana
• New Hampshire
• Oregon
• Alaska — some cities may impose local tax

These states matter only when one is genuinely the cardholder's billing address. Rely on Tax and Total on the final Google Play checkout screen.

Buy in five steps

1. Open the official ChatGPT Android app;
2. Sign in to the ChatGPT account that will use Codex;
3. Select the Pro tier actually displayed by the app;
4. Verify the Google account, card, genuine address, Tax, and Total;
5. Confirm payment only when everything is correct.

For the $200 tier, checkout must clearly show:

$200 / month (or the local-currency equivalent)

Stop if it is missing. Do not buy another plan as a substitute.

After payment

• Google Play's Payments & subscriptions page shows the correct plan;
• Settings → My Plan in ChatGPT shows the same plan;
• Codex uses the same ChatGPT account;
• The order number, receipt, and renewal date are saved.

If the plan does not sync, do not immediately buy it again on another platform and risk duplicate charges.

Final advice

A trusted overseas client can help pay, but the user should manage the account. Prefer a transfer or reimbursement, do not rely on VCCs, and never use an AI-generated address.
